I can’t imagine what it must be like to go to work everyday knowing that you will potentially put yourself in harms way to protect all of us. I don’t think I could be so self sacrificing as to be a Policeman, Fireman, Paramedic, Soldier or any other career that holds the greater good of our society under their care.
Like many I read and watched with increasing horror the story of Detective Inspector Bryson Anderson and his tragic death. I can picture the area it took place in as I grew up out that way and my memories are of a gentle, rural environment that is now forever associated with this terrible event. A seemingly simple dispute with no cause to escalate as it did and it seems so stupid and trivial. Any death in the service of others is unfathomable but this is something I can’t get my head around.
We take so much for granted in terms of having a safe and secure society but this comes only from the dedication of so many others. If these people didn’t ignore the danger and blithely go about their day as if it would never happen who knows what would happen.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of Bryson Anderson and to all others who serve we owe you so much. So whilst it may not be possible, stay safe if you can and thanks for all that you do for us.
Today no matter where you are please take a moment to remember all those who do so much for us whatever the cost.
