Small gestures can make a big difference

In today’s world we are seemingly focused on bigger, better, faster, do more, set higher goals etc etc and it can feel like one giant race for no apparent reason. We work longer hours, we are supposed to be perfect parents, have a perfect relationship, live a great life with tremendous balance and achieve a total sense of harmony and peace with universe all the while keeping our bodies perfect and cooking gourmet meals without breaking into a sweat.

14 More Days

On top of that we are told we should do all of this because we want to, not for reward but just because that is how we roll! We work long hours and the concept of a “work / life balance” seems more relevant to an article in a magazine than a reality.

and then…….

thank you thank you

Sometimes people say “thank you” and it feels less like a burden. Today at my company we were all given 2 movie tickets and told to take a moment to enjoy a break with our significant others as a small gesture of thanks. Now I know this isn’t going to balance out all the extra time and work we have put in but I think for the most part people genuinely were grateful for the acknowledgement. It isn’t a big ticket (pardon the pun) item but we will all make use of the opportunity and I heard people debating which movie they would go and see. (Django Unchained seems to be the big winner here)

So even if it is only a small thing take the time to say thank you.

You might find people really appreciate it.
